“I put Jesus in the forefront of everything; my professional and personal life. My faith and will to endure is what keeps me. I also have a PASSION for this. I’m not out here chasing a paycheck, I’m chasing purpose. I love seeing people win and if I can be a force behind that victory, I’m happy!”

1. Please Introduce yourself. Business focus, Business name, etc…
My name is Deidre Palode. I am the Founder and Senior Publicist of MayLee Media and also the creator of It’s Just PR. 2. How did you get started? What made you want to pursue Public Relations?
Honestly, I am an athlete by nature. I played basketball and ran track at the college level so once I 049made the decision to focus on my degree, I wanted to major in something that will keep me connected to the industry. One day I was watching my favorite show at the time, “The Game” with Tia Mowry and Pooch Hall and peaked high interest on one particular episode when a certain character was introduced. On the show, there was a character by the name of “Dionne” and “Dionne” was Pooch Hall’s publicist who happens to be a Rookie in the “NFL”. From that moment, I knew I wanted to be a publicist because what I saw is that she was his “Professional Cheerleader” and she was right there on the sidelines with him, making him “famous”. I love sports and I love helping people, so I started doing my research and BOOM, there you have it. Athlete turned journalist, turned publicist and her name is Deidre Palode.
3. Being a publicist can be a bit intense. What is your motivation and inspiration?
I put Jesus in the forefront of everything; my professional and personal life. My faith and will to endure is what keeps me. I also have a PASSION for this. I’m not out here chasing a paycheck, I’m chasing purpose. I love seeing people win and if I can be a force behind that victory, I’m happy!
4. What projects are you working on now? Choose one! Tell us about your clients, books, blogs or upcoming events?
042I have an event coming up called, “It’s Just PR”. This is a new and my first event EVER catered towards media professionals and I believe it is what the industry is missing. The classroom doesn’t teach you what you really need to know. Also, the word “publicist” is throwed around like we’re party promoters or event planners but that’s not the case. I want to develop an event that will break down this industry to a tea and help you become the best professional you can possibly be and that’s all about leveling up and being successful. It’s Just PR will be an industry panel with brunch and a mixer that will give guests the opportunity to exchange their business cards and/or resumes with other professionals or potential employers. Tickets are only $35 and it includes food, powerful information and a career opportunity. You can rsvp at www.itsjustpr.com/events.html.
5. What PR advice would you give to Entrepreneurs, Entertainers, Lifestyle brands or small business owners?
Research. Please do your research on your potential publicist or PR firm. Research the owners, the account executive, their work, their clients (past and present). So many times, people have been burned by “publicists” who really are not doing anything but taking their money. Sign with someone who cares about your brand and who really wants you to succeed. Have a decent budget for Public Relations services ($12,000 for a 6 month campaign or more) and be open to listen to the one giving you professional advice that will help you in the long run.
6. Please share your Professional Photos (action/work mode pics suggested) Social Media and Digital Platforms.
